Social Networking Platform

I’ve been reading and hearing a lot about social networking lately, about building your online platform and getting an audience. I kept thinking things like “it’s too early” “I should have more publishing credits first” and “I don’t have the time.” The truth is, I waste far more time online than I’m willing to admit, and this will at least give me a few productive things to do with that time.
Today I signed up for Facebook and Twitter and linked them together with this page and my Livejournal. I added a link box to my sidebar for these places, too. I’m still building up my profiles on these sites, and deciding what to do, and what not to do. Facebook, especially, I want it to be a “professional link” not full of silly apps and nonsense.
We’ll see how that goes. I am thinking of publishing some flash fiction on my Livejournal, and maybe on this blog as well. I don’t want to do a lot of cross posting, but I imagine some may occur: submissions and rejections on LJ and Twitter; flash fiction on LJ and here. I’m not sure, what do people think? Would it be too much? Or just a way to reach multiple audiences?
